Stucco Textures: Coarse
Stucco is a mixture of sand, water and cement to form mortar and then this is applied over a surface that the homeowner wishes to decorate. It is known for its durability and also flexibility in accepting color pigments to form different colors to match different tastes and preferences . Stucco can have a coarse finish and this will largely depend of the aggregates that have been added to give this texture. Different types of cement can be used in stucco and this will depend on the the weather conditions that it will be subjected to and other outside factors such as water, humidity etc. Stucco is also applied as a siding option on framed or solid walls which cab be left as is or painted according to the color preference of the homeowner.
Stucco is generally applied in three coats and this is done over a wire mesh, building paper or even sheath board. It can be applied either by hand or by spraying it in on, but care must be taken that it does not dry too quickly as this is known to weaken its strength. People who want very coarse stucco will have to use aggregates such as coarse sand and pebbles to get this texture. There are very few house that use a coarse stucco as a siding, but this is commonly seen in dividing walls. A trowel can be used to arrive at the texture that is desired, but this is usually a trial and error process.
